Summary-
Based on polls taken by phone, President Obama's popularity is taking a huge toll. Though people seem to believe that Obama is likeable, cares about the country, and has strong morals, the majority do not think that his handling of the economic downturn and his policies in general have been effective. Obama now has a 55% disapproval rating, and many claim that they will not be voting for Obama in the next presidential election.
Connection-
The fact that representatives in American government can be replaced is proof that the people have the power. The elections of officials, instead of some high power appointing them, is a process that the constitution protects. The constitution also describes the limits of certain empowered people's terms so that they do not get too powerful and must still answer to the citizens who have appointed them in the first place.
At the beginning of the year, it was discussed in class that voting affects the government profoundly, and allows the opinions of many kinds of people to be known.
Reflection-
Some of Obama's policies are outrageous. The idea of giving big businesses even more money than they already have is a horrible idea, and the bailout did not go as planned. Now America is in a gaping hole of debt, and Obama wants to spend more money on fixing the economy that he metaphorically punched in the face in the first place. He does not deserve to continue in his presidency, but the only other likely outcome of the upcoming election is a Republican gaining office. That would certainly be worse.
